2016 Dodge Durango Transmission Repair Guide

Love my choice to switch from a Ford So I've made the switch from a Ford Escape (and still own a Taurus X, plus have had numerous other Fords) to my Dodge Durango. We needed a bigger more reliable vehicle to fit our expanded family (now 3 children!) so we began researching online the options. We checked safety, size, price, reliability, ratings before even test driving. We had it narrowed down to 4 options before test driving. Then after driving a Ford Explorer and then the Durango, I was in love with the Durango. So much more room!

It could fit our sons gigantic car seat rear facing no problem! I thought the Durango seemed to actually handle better. We were able to get a better price on it with more options than the Explorer. We purchased one with heated seats front and back, heated steering wheel, push button and remote start, back up camera and one-touch unlock/lock from outside (which is one of my favorite features!). Now after almost 2 months, I'm still loving to get in and drive it! The autostop feature actually does save gas. I get usually right around 20mph.

Those that reviewed it and said that it was sluggish obviously didn't try the Sport mode or the paddle shifters. It can move (of course the gas mileage goes down then). I love that I can always just hit a paddle shifter and downshift if I want to give it a little more pep and go.

I've never had any problems with the engine or transmission. We also purchased the full 100,000 Mopar warranty because we plan on having this for a long time! The other glitch we've had is that the climate controls on the 8.5 touchscreen stopped working but took it in to my local Dodge dealer and they are fixing it. I actually have never owned a vehicle that hasn't had some kind of electronic or technological problem of some sort, so no surprise there. Just a couple of minor QC issues The car is great.

The dealership experience was not so great as I asked them to take care of the steering wheel alignment. In doing so, they messed up the actual wheel alignment (now drifts slightly to the left) and the steering wheel is still angled to the right. Other than that, its really a great car. It replaces a '14 Grand Cherokee, and much is very similar, but cornering is tighter on the new Durango. Third row and cargo space are a plus. My only other downside is that the Beats premium audio package is lacking in bass. Also lacking in ability to control the sound processor at the head unit.

But these are minor things, most people will enjoy the sound quality as it is good. Like Driving A Building I was furnished a 2016 Dodge Durango AWD Limited by my insurance company while my Jeep Compass is being repaired (a tree fell on it). I am amused to no end that the automotive press just RAVES about the Durango while having little good to say about the Compass.

Personally, I CAN'T WAIT to get my little Compass back. The Durango is a mastodon of over-engineered crapola, in my humble opinion. From the stereo I can't shut off to the engine that shuts off every time I stop, this ranch house on wheels is a Chinese water-torture of constant annoyance.

It seems to run 'okay', but it handles like an aircraft carrier. I checked online, and it looks like the going price for Durangos like my rental is about $40K, which I've seen described as 'reasonable'. I think it's absurdly overpriced. SUV with Style The Styling is great. The interior lights and tail lights are great. The headlights are a bit dim compared to my Toyota Corolla and Ram 1500. Seating is great, comfortable, love the heated seats.

Love the autostart and keyfob for unlocking the doors. I just have to get close and the doors unlock for me as I reach for the door. The climate control auto adjusts. The Navigation SUCKS! I use WAZE instead.

I do like the traffic and weather( although it gives me a Danbury weather report not putnam county) The GAS price checker is not very accurate. Still shows HESS and not the new name. In summary, car is great, Uconnect needs work to be more relevant. I was also wondering how they address Security on UCONNECT and was told I would be given a USB drive to update it. Working in IT security, I know there are problems that have still not been fixed on UCONNECT (well unless they can push it down to my car). LOVE LOVE LOVE I have the 2016 SXT PLUS Blacktop Edition.

Love the look. Drives smooth, hugs the road, great gas mileage ( 24.5 mpg average) The entertainment system/ controls ( touchscreen) is VERY user friendly. No problems at all with the Bluetooth. My favorites include the heated seats, heated steering wheel, the exterior and interior look. And you really feel like you are driving a SUV. The ONLY con I have is the acceleration (particularly uphill- ( but I have the V6.) Not complaining too much since it is a larger SUV and weighs more than the average counterparts so it is expected.

The acceleration during driving on flat roads is fine. I had a Jeep before this and a Jetta before that. I will NEVER not own a Durango again. Surprisingly Pleased!

The 2016 Durango Citadel is a well-made, well designed full size SUV. The interior and exterior are well appointed and well designed, with great comfort and convenience items that are pleasing (vented driver and passenger seats) and start-stop technology. Two issue I've had so far: 1) is the fact that the 8 speed VVT transmission shifts roughly and even over revs when fast accelerating; 2) The cooling aspect in the HVAC seems to be having problems cooling effectively during some very hot days here in the Midwest. Hopefully a quick trip to the dealer can fix this. Other than these issues, the vehicle is great, so far. Chrysler Hit It Out Of The Park I previously owned a 2003 Tahoe Z71 totally loaded and I loved it. I just retired the vehicle with 245 thousand miles on it and it was still a mule.

For six years my middle son used this as his primary vehicle for high school and college. Oh what stories I would hear if the vehicle could talk. Of course, I wanted another Tahoe until I went to the dealer and went into shock at the price. A friend told me to look at the Durango. I had owned Jeeps before and liked them a lot but needed the third row. Upon further investigation I found out this is a Jeep with the third row as its made on the same platform since the last four years. I needed the Hemi to tow boats and snowmobiles and wow, how cool a vehicle.

And it has far superior gas mileage for the big powerful V-8 paired with the new Fiat 8 speed transmission. I wound up with the Citadel trim level and its plenty posh yet durable enough to last.

I can't see having any regrets as I scoot around in this very peppy SUV. Brand loyalty can be a good thing but sometimes it pays to switch and big time in this case! New vehicle Purchased a 'USED'. Yes used 2016 Durango R/T with 65 miles on it (July 2016). With the addition of a second child (we opted for 2nd row captain chairs), our 2013 Audi Q5 3.0T Prem Plus, S-Line just did not have enough interior room. Durango is a nice vehicle for its size.

The V8 is a must for the weight of this vehicle. Coming from a supercharged V6 german CUV, my wife could not stand the Dodge V6.

The 8sp is smooth. We tested other American SUV's that had the quad captain chairs as options and the Durango ticked all our boxes for satisfaction. We liked the turbo-6 on the Ford explorer but not much else on that vehicle. U-Connect is intuitive, I just hope the touchscreen lasts. I will update later on longevity.

Noted.our Audi had 60k miles when we traded and was absolutely flawless.NOT A SINGLE PROBLEM during the ownership. I'm not really sold, though this was a big truck I had this for a week, while my car was in the shop. I liked many aspects of this, and many I did not. I'll try to be fair about both sides.

The goods are: The look is awesome, Dodge has it going on. From the retro squared boxy design, to the LED running lights, to the rear lights on the tailgate, to the height, it is all super good. The car is heavy, and feels like it is a tank, so you feel confident about driving and not feeling like you will get blown around in the wind. The leather seats are super sweet, but getting in and out of them requires patience, and some pain. The equipment level is good for the price. The price is $42K, but for what you get, in today's market, is about average, or slightly above average. The headlights and driving lights on together give you a great view.

The bads are: This thing does not want to stop.it is a beast and will require some pedal effort to get it to stop. The getting in and out will hurt you as the large plastic pieces on the sides of the seat snag you and it hurts.it is too big to sit over or down into.so you have to climb in and as you do, you will get hurt. Gas mileage was in the 14-15 range. The 3rd row seats are for kids.but nice to have.

The shifting at times is horrendous, banging around like it is hunting for a good gear.and the auto start/stop thing is nothing but annoying for the little bit of gas you might have saved. The interior lights are not LED - which is crazy because on our Dodge Journey SXT plus, they were all LED's inside. For $42K, you have to have at least what the Journey is offering, right? Not in this case. The front bumper rides very low to the ground and wants to scrape all the curbs as you pull into a parking spot.

It was a great ride, but I was happy to turn it back in at the end of a week. I had put about 500 miles on it and I was not feeling like I wanted to go buy one. You should rent for a week before buying to see that it is worth the steep price for what you get. I loved the storage on this thing, but you might realize you don't need anything this big and expensive. Summary: I live in northern new york.

On the morning of, my 11y/o daughter buckled her 7y/o sister in the back passenger seat of our 2016 dodge durango. Our 11 y/o then enter the front passenger side and shut the door. The durango then popped out of park and rolled down our steep driveway with our two daughters inside.

My 11 y/o had enough sense to jump to the drivers side and hit the brakes. The vehicle was not running and the keys were not in the vehicle. My daughter could not stop the vehicle and it went partially over a 25' embankment, as my wife was walking out door to get in the car.

My kids were not injured and i credit my daughter for that by slowing down the vehicle. The local dealership has been great and is behind us 100% but dodge has been less than helpful, and make it sound like there is nothing they can do. I'm not sure they understand how bad this could have been. Again the vehicle is a 2016 dodge durango with the rotary shifting knob. It was not running, no keys in it, and no one was in the drivers seat. My kids are terrified to ever get in that car again and my wife and i wouldn't anyway because it is unsafe.

Dodge makes it sound like because the dealership found no fault codes there is nothing they can or will do. I call dodge everyday and i feel they don't understand the seriousness of this complaint. Summary: After purchase, immediately we started having problems with headlight not working, then a rear light and brake light not working.

Took in for recall on another part and they discovered it was the electrical, while driving and sitting at lights. Lights on dash, radio, headlights, etc, not work properly or all sudden decide not to work at all. We've taken it back now 5 times. Mechanic says the whole wiring harness is bad and cannot be repaired, but continues to say they called chrysler for parts to try to repair. While my 83 yrs old dad who bought the car, left sitting at the dealer for 4-5 hours every trip and no rental vehicle available from enterprise or hertz. After sitting there 5 hours today, we had to leave vehicle. This time, we are ready to call attorney for lemon law in missouri.

Summary: Computer/transmission issues. Car broke down and could not put in park because the computer thought my speed was too high even though i was standing still. Once the car was towed to the dealer it moved forward while it was in park. (video evidence) in a previous incident the car was placed in park and not turned off. I exited the vehicle with the engine still running. The car idled forward on its own damaging a garage and the car itself.

Initially, i thought this was due to me not putting the car in park but now i don't believe this was the case. I believed the car to be in park but the electronic transmission control kept the did not recognize that vehicle was in park. Summary: The automatic start/stop feature fails to restart the engine after foot is removed from brake. The error message appears in the information system 'cycle shift to park then recycle to drive'.

The d flashes on the dashboard and the d on the gear shift selector flashes. This normally happens at a traffic light but may occur during a short stop prior to turning or merging onto a street. This causes a dangerous pause that could result in a rear end collision by being hit from behind.

There is a function button to disable the start/stop feature but the default position on engine start is on. Summary: Original arbitration data to ncds: 1. Durango 2016 was purchased on 30 april 2016 with the forward collision warning system (fcws) with brake assist as an option. This and the adaptive cruise control (acc) system was app $2k as a safety option. This website describes the feature. Attached file capture 6 and 7 describe the feature: “fcws provides the driver the opportunity to be notified via audio or visual alert and if the situation merits, a level of braking to help slow the vehicle and finally if the fcws event begins below 26 mph, the system may provide maximum or partial braking to mitigate forward collision.” this information is from document downloaded from corporate website titled 2016 durango om 4th.pdf page 229 /230 describing the feature.

I have attempted to resolve this issue for over 6 weeks through the chrysler resolution center case # 29403021 working with penny @ 214-583-2188. She informed me that if the acc system is working then the fcws “should” work because there are no error codes. I have taken this vehicle to both lithia dodge in las cruces, nm and sunland dodge in el paso tx where the vehicle was purchased. Service representatives from both dealerships test drove the vehicle and encountered similar situations in traffic consisting of potential collision with another vehicle but the system never provided audio/visual or limited braking assistance as advertised. However, chrysler resolution’s position is that if there are no error codes, and the acc works, then the system “must/should” be working. That is not the case for fcws. Acc does work.

Since then: 1. Road demo conducted with vehicle and system doesn't work., 2. Original cost of option was refunded. Prefer fault be fixed and will return rebate to dealer 4. Files document the history of this problem.

Summary: Autonomous acceleration. The vehicle without driver assist accelerated twice when pulling into parking spots. In both cases i was making a left turn into a parking spot when the acceleration commenced. Only by standing on the brake while at the same time placing the vehicle in park and pressing the engine off button was i able to stop the vehicles forward motion. The durango came close to ramming the parked car in the space in front of the one i was pulling into. The durango had approximately 3000 miles on the odometer when the two (2) incidents of acceleration occurred. The incidents occurred on consecutive days, oct 9 & 10, after driving the vehicle approx.

6-8 hours straight each day, on a trip to northern michigan. The purchasing dealer was contacted immediately, or as soon as possible, to inform it's service department of these two incidents. The vehicle was taken to an out of area chrysler dealer on the morning following the 1st incident. They read the 'fault' codes and informed me that nothing registered other than the ecm had broken contact. Upon the occurrence of the second incident we cut short our trip and returned to our home so that we could take the vehicle to the purchasing dealer, suburban chrysler in farmington hills michigan. After two days in service the report that came back was no problem found.

My concern is that this acceleration could occur during a more problematic situation where the ability to control the durango will be limited which could result in bodily injury or property damage. Letters of record have been sent to xxx, ceo dodge, and xxx, service mgr. At suburban chrysler in farmington hills mi. I have taken photos of the brake & gas peddles to show there relation to a weather tech which the dealer has suggested as a possible cause for the acceleration.
